Zséda - Hungary
Award-winning Hungarian singer, Zséda, and her band of 6 musicians, perform in a variety of settings from large halls to small venues. They needed a monitoring system that would provide consistent quality without any compromises, is easy to set up quickly, and is as small as possible for easy transportation.
Allen & Heath digital mixers were once again at the forefront of this year’s South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, USA. Mixers from across the dLive, GLD and Qu ranges were employed in many participating venues across the city during the six-day event, most notably for the renowned British Music Embassy showcase, which hosted artists including Slaves, Kate Nash and Rag‘n’Bone Man.
Above & Beyond
Above & Beyond's tour is an acoustic reworking of the group’s popular hits, and involves 17 artists and 80 inputs on stage. Performers comprise the 3 principle artists with various keyboards and guitars, 2 drummers with 3 drum kits, 4 vocalists, a bass player, the musical director, a 4-piece string section, a harpist, and a multi-instrumentalist.
The Entertainment Band is a high energy 7-piece function band based in York. The band also run a recording studio, PA rental and publishing business.
The band perform at diverse and unusual venues for weddings and corporate events. Often, they only have 30 minutes to load in and setup, so they needed a system that would give them that speed.
Music Power Rock Beijing, China
Some of China’s top rock artists kicked off the Music Power Rock China 30 tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Chinese rock music, flying in renowned US engineer, Jim Ebdon, to manage FOH sound.
Kevin Kern and Daydream are well known for writing sound tracks for many popular TV dramas. Technically, the focus of the concert was to capture a live recording for TV broadcast, and also use the recording to mix down a live album, as well as provide live sound reinforcement.
Blue Man Group
Blue Man Productions was looking to upgrade the personal monitor mixing system for their new family of performance spaces and portable systems across the world, needed an audio system that would grow with the shows.
Circus Paletti is a travelling show with about 110 actors who perform an open air show for approximately 1000 visitors a day. Staged in the round, the venue demanded many different outputs and delays.
Sound engineer, Ian Barfoot, was approached to manage FOH for the production of Pete Townshend’s Classic Quadrophenia, taking place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. A classical reworking of The Who’s classic 1970s album, Quadrophenia, Townshend’s production featured the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Oriana Choir, and guest singers Billy Idol, Phil Daniels and Alfie Boe.
Sound of the Forest is a popular festival taking place in central Germany every year in August, attracting around 7,000 visitors. The festival comprises two stages, and the new Lake Stage hosting the Forest Sessions, where all the performing bands had the opportunity to record some tracks.
Former Static-X bass player, Andy The Kid, embarked on his first solo tour. The Australian born bass player, who is also a part of the rock band We Are The Riot, needed to upgrade his mixing equipment in order to travel internationally to promote his new album Linchpin.
Mix 2 Go
Brazilian production company, Mix 2 Go, was commissioned to record the 20th anniversary concert for Ivete Sangalo. The system needed to capture 128 recording channels and 16 channels from the video recording, including both audio and video feeds.
Four-piece band Port Isla required a compact mixer to run FoH and Monitors on a run of UK headline shows. GLD-80 provided a complete solution and met the need for portability and quick setup.
At the 2014 South By Southwest Music Festival held in Austin, TX, USA, Allen & Heath digital consoles were used to stream the experience live to millions of fans around the world.
Napoli Prima E Dopo 2014
Held annually since 1983, Napoli Prima e Dopo is a music festival dedicated to the history of Neapolitan music, which is aired on Italy’s RAI1 TV channel. PA company, Jo Farase Rent, supplied the audio system for the event, which included a 40 element orchestra.
With a large number of backing musicians to cater for, including an orchestra, Monitor Engineer, Jens Koolwijk, required a personal monitor mixing solution that would enable performers to control their own monitor sound.
Camryn Arena Tour
A FOH and Monitor system was required for American teen popstar, Camryn, who was opening for One Direction on their sell-out 63-date European arena tour. The system needed to be compact and quick to set up.
FOH and Monitor systems were required for Adele’s European and American Tours to promte her album, 21. The mixers needed to meet high audio quality standards, and needed to be able to work with Adele’s incredibly powerful voice and vocal range.
