Allen & Heath mixers have earned an enviable reputation for quality, reliability and ease of use in live venues right across the globe. The town of Petit-Lancy near Geneva decided to refurbish its multipurpose hall. After considerable research, the company Synergie S.A. was selected to install the lighting and audio systems. The customer wanted a very flexible system, with sophisticated parameters but as 80% of the time the system would be used by non-technician staff, it also needed to be accessible.
Three dLive systems, all S7000 Surfaces and DM64 MixRacks, were provided by Drayton Entertainment’s long-time audio partner, Angus Audio, which also supplied eight new Apple Macs, and Sennheiser 2000 Series wireless microphone systems. With seven theatres and four shows running simultaneously, the gear allocation is determined by the shows’ needs.
Opened in 2009, the Blue Whale is a live jazz club and art gallery located in the heart of Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, California, USA. The Blue Whale has become the ‘go to’ venue for the best musicians to showcase their latest projects.
Teatro Socialein Bellinzona, Switzerland, underwent an upgrade to its audio equipment, requiring a new FOH mixing console. Built in 1846,Teatro Socialeis one of Switzerland’s most historic theatres, which was refurbished 20 years ago following a period of neglect. The venue hosts theatrical productions, and also a variety of concerts, from classical to rock.
From the inner city of Boston, MA to the rolling hills of Hollywood, CA, Howl at the Moon has become a staple for the night life scene across the United States. With duelling pianos and a full band performing, one has the chance to hear their favourite song at any given night. With 17 established locations across the country, and more to come, Dean Laber, the Media Director, was on the hunt for a fixed install formula that could be deployed at all current and future locations.
The infamous 230 Fifth Club is located in downtown Manhattan, NYC, and is the biggest rooftop penthouse in the heart of the Big Apple, enjoying panoramic views of the city, including the Empire State Building. The venue hosts many events, both public and private, across two floors, from live broadcast of the 2016 United States election to the NBC broadcast for New Year’s Eve.
Białystok Puppet Theatre is the oldest puppet theatre, and the centre of the art of puppetry, in Poland. Established in 1953, the theatre practises both traditional and modern theatrical forms, ranging from rod and string puppetry to mask and drama theatre. The theatre’s main hall was in need of renovation, including acoustic treatment and the installation of a new sound reinforcement system.
Allen & Heath digital mixers were once again at the forefront of this year’s South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, USA. Mixers from across the dLive, GLD and Qu ranges were employed in many participating venues across the city during the six-day event, most notably for the renowned British Music Embassy showcase, which hosted artists including Slaves, Kate Nash and Rag‘n’Bone Man.
The multi-purpose Returned Service Association (RSA) venue in Napier, New Zealand, was founded to provide a variety of sporting and social activities for army veterans and their families, offering activities from keep fit and bowls to gaming and live music entertainment. The venue was in need of an audio refurbishment and a more sophisticated zone controller to manage five zones: Lounge, TAB restaurant, Library, Smokers Deck, and Casino.
In 2017, the annual Vienna festival needed a mixing system to manage the grand opening ceremony, staged in Vienna’s main square and broadcast worldwide. Hosted by Conchita, and accompanied by the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, the event included performances from Viennese artists Lylit, MoZuluArt, Russkaja and Yasmo & die Klangkantine.
Scala - London
Among the most iconic London venues of its type, Scala in Kings Cross has played host to everyone from Coldplay and The Foo Fighters to Ray Lamontagne and Sheryl Crow over the years. As part of a recent significant upgrade to Scala’s in-house audio system, the venue needed new audio mixers for FOH, monitors and also the DJ booth.
The Saxon Pub has had a leading role in Austin’s music scene for over 20 years. Many well-respected musicians have graced the stage from Willy Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Joe Ely to Bonnie Raitt. It has also been the venue of choice for various film and live recordings, and a frequent hang out for celebrities.
The new Hard Rock Cafe in Chiangmai, Thailand, recently opened its doors featuring an audio system designed and installed by One Systems Global. At the centre of the system, the mixer needed to be compact and able to manage a live band, as well as the usual playback and zoning requirements of the venue. The mixer would mainly be located in a control room so remote control options would be necessary.
Poland’s new JordankiCultural & Congress Centre, an architecturally renowned building in the city of Toruń, needed to fulfil personal monitoring requirements in the venue’s two performance halls. Supplied and installed by Konsbud Audio, the system consists of 16 ME-1 personal mini mixers and two ME-U hubs, divided between the Concert Hall and Chamber Hall.
A new Municipal Theatre recently opened its doors in the city of Chillánin central Chile. Established as a modern centre for the arts and culture, the venue required the installation of a high spec technology suite. The 1300 capacity venue will host a diverse event programme of opera, ballet, plays and music concerts, from visiting national and international production companies.
