SRB Consulting and Design Hits the Road With Avantis

SRB Consulting and Design Hits the Road With Avantis-powered Mobile Broadcast Trailer

Allen & Heath Avantis is in the audio driver’s seat for innovative streaming remote rig.

El Paso, Texas based SRB Consulting and Design is known as a local go-to for AVL system design, sales, training, event production, rentals and structured cabling installs. Their most recent service offering now includes top-tier live remote video production and streaming via a custom 30 foot trailer — complete with control room, storage, on-board power generator, air conditioning and Point-to-Point (PTP) antennas. At the heart of the mobile production rig, an Allen & Heath Avantis and GX4816 expander ensures the stream sounds as good as it looks.

“We went with the Avantis console for this trailer due to its ease of use, small form factor, and sound quality,” notes Scott Brown, Owner, SRB Consulting and Design. He adds, “It is truly amazing what this console is capable of.” Equally at home in streaming and broadcast as on the stage or on tour, Avantis packs in 64 96kHz processing channels with a highly flexible workflow within a compact and rugged full metal chassis. Brown selected the 48 input / 16 output GX4816 Portable GX Expander to provide high I/O count capabilities for the broadcast team. As an added bonus, GX4816 connects via a single Cat5e cable to an SLink socket on an SQ, Avantis or AHM-64, or to a gigaACE audio network card on a dLive system, opening up a wide range of possibilities for future system expansions and configurations.

In addition to the Avantis and GX expander, SRB mobile broadcast trailer audio is powered by KRK monitors, Sennheiser evolution wireless G4 and e 914 microphones, and SoundTools SuperCAT reels and tails. Video is covered by a Blackmagic Design ATEM 4, ATEM 1 surface, an Ursa Mini pair, two JVC HM750 and an enviable collection of high-end video monitors. A combination of a UniFi OS console, port switch and access points pair up with a MicroTik PTP microwave to carry the production output to the masses.

“We’ve seen quite an amazing uptick in creative applications for Avantis out the field this past year,” says Jeff Hawley, Allen & Heath USA Marketing Director. “It is quite a testament to the Continuity UI and overall workflow design approach that the R&D team took with Avantis as we see it just as comfy going to work in a club or festival as it is in a complex live stream or broadcast-centric role. Kudos to Scott and the SRB team for designing such a hip system — we’ll make sure to tune in to catch the show and see how it’s going.”

“All of our audio team loves using the Allen & Heath gear, especially Avantis and our fleet of SQ-5 we deploy on different events,” Brown added. “We plan to purchase more Avantis consoles to add to our inventory real soon!”
